President’s Message No. 10
Lets Run or Walk…For Rotary!

Runnex and the QCIM
For the enthusiasts and sports-minded, running is a way of life. It’s a life of wellness and goodness. It’s a good way to enjoy life.

Rotarians can start to have a healthy life style by regular walking, and perhaps, graduating to become joggers, then serious runners. I therefore urge my clubmen, IWC members and their families to join Rotarian-doctor Benny Fragante, Runnex EVP, every Sunday at 6am at the UP Academic Oval, and walk with us. The assembly place is in front of the Abelardo Hall and we can all join the free running Clinic of Runnex Club, which can teach and train us to prepare for our 5K race in the 1st QC International Marathon on October 18, 2009.

Tonight, we welcome Runnex top hunchos, Chairman Art Disini, President Rudy Fernandez and other directors and officers. RCSFDM will sign a MOA with Runnex, appointing SFDM to be the lead club in D-3780, in promoting the QCIM in the entire Rotary world.

Let us all join this big sporting event and get as many Rotarians and their families involved. We need not run competitively. We can walk as a group to espouse our advocacy as the world’s largest service organization.

The Rotary Center’s Office of the District Governor and SFDM’s Chancery Office will be registration centers for all Rotarians and their families. We will put up a Rotary Friendship booth and man three (3) water stations. We will line up the finishing route with Rotary club banners.

Being a district equivalent to the city’s territory (one of only two in the world; London being the other one), D-3780 through SFDM must play a leading role in this event, which should also be our health and wellness program. In addition, we can start a running fellowship by joining our run or walk with Dr. Benny Fragante every Sunday morning at the UP Academic Oval.

Fairview MSU-Medical Outreach
The MSU mission, with medical, dental, optical, free lab tests and tree planting was a huge success – our second for the year. We were privileged to have our District Governor Dulce dB. Coyukiat as honored guest. Kudos to our member, Rotarian Jonel Quebal, who together with his councilmen organized, promoted and supported the mission, ably assisted by PP Paeng Arcega as the project proponent and the IWC officers and members, led by President Soc Yap, IWC Past District Chair Tess Arcega, PP Nits Po, PP Armi Guerrero, IPP Chit Reyes, and of course, Governor’s Spouse City Morales.

Our 2nd Expanded MSU mission operated on 73 patients (29 major, i.e., hernia, cleft lip, large tumors, 44 minor), 410 medical patients, 72 dental, 161 optical, blood donors 5, 10 legal, 42 deworming.

My thanks to those whose presence made the Governor to remark: “Full force ang SFDM.” Present were Charter Member and PP Louie Lopez, IPP Allan Asi, PP Sor Mercado, PP Paeng Arcega, PP Penny Policarpio, PP Louie Pangulayan, PP Arnold Guerrero, PP Butch Javier, PP Manny Po, PP Rene Clemente and her dentist daughter Cecille, PP Bong Guiao, PN Ronnie Yap, Club Secretary Bon Tagum and wife Ingrid and their children, EIC Noel Babaran, Director Nonoy Desamito and wife Cindy, 2nd VP Rod Banag, Director Renan Briones, Treasurer John Simon, Rtn. Raul Pagtalunan, doctors Jim Sanchez, Len Abogado and wife Nini, Ding Gaza, Alex Rana, Bing Yumang, Benny Fragante and wife Glenda, Rtn. Cee Cadid and wife Paz, Doctor Jay Vinas and wife Anne.

Our thanks too, to the Rotaract volunteers, PP Ehms, IPP Anne, Rtr. Sinta, Director Orly and Rtr. Ruffa; the barangay volunteers, the young and new board passers-doctors from UERM, the cadets from the Hope Christian College with their resplendent white uniforms, and all the donors in cash and in kind, among others, Jollibee and Pizza Hut. Thanks to cash donors Treasurer John Simon, P2,000, PP Penny Policarpio and PP Sor Mercado p1,000 each.

A 12-year boy, with severe eye infection and now almost blind in both eyes was referred to the City Eye Center by the compassionate and generous Charter Member and PP Louie Lopez for free treatment.

Gentlemen and ladies, that self-less act of giving our ourselves to the poor is the highest form of praise and worship!

New Members
SFDM’s membership development and retention program is a year-long activity. I urge my fellow clubmen to continue to recruit quality members and retain Rotarians to strengthen the club. In a few years, we should be at least 100-strong and be the largest and strongest club in the district!

My thanks to PP Arnold Guerrero for his tireless effort in recruiting quality members. Tonight, we welcome Dr. Hernando B. Delizo, President of the Quezon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Dr. Miguel A. Ramos, President of the Philippine Society of Geriatric Medicine. I find no reason not to accept the proposed members by PP Arnold. They could become assets of the club to reinforce our medical outreach programs and make them better in terms of impact and benefit to the needy.

The Future of Rotary is In our Hands!
