We have officially started the RY 2009-2010, and this year’s theme is “The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands.” And this is a stated fact. The success and failure of our Club is not the sole accountability of the Club officers. We are all accountable for each other, for the Club and for the Rotary; but most of all, we are accountable to the people who are looking to us for help and assistance. Being a part of the Rotary is a shared privilege and responsibility. We are all aware of what is expected from us when we took our oath, and we all know before hand that joining the Rotary will not be a walk in the park.
As what current RI President John Kenny mentioned in his first President’s message, “everything we are, and everything we aspire to become, lies in the hands of Rotarians in their clubs.” How the future will play out is all up to us. We are calling on all Clubmen to join in shaping THIS future. Let us all take a more active stance and impart our skills, efforts, talents and resources to effect change and help make this world a better place. Everything needs to start from something. If we positively impact our community, we can let the ripples of service reverberate and reach as many people as possible. And just imagine if each Rotary Club will produce these “ripples”! The ripples of service will move and affect the other communities, the other districts, the other countries, even the world!
A single act of kindness can inspire many and go a long way. Very few are given the privilege to be in a position to be of service to others. Let us make the most of it. Again, the FUTURE of the ROTARY…somehow the future of humanity…is in OUR HANDS.
